Gmail has been my primary email for over 15 years and now I have an absurd amount of emails in my inbox and it is a real challenge to find anything quickly in my inbox.
I hate not being able to find the email I am looking for even though I know it exists I’ve forced my myself to get familiar with and to use the many Gmail search operators. There are many nice operators though not totally intuitive, but with repetitive use they are now second nature.
For example, let’s say I want to find emails that have an attachment? No problem, I just enter this in Gmail ‘Search mail’ feature:
has:attachment
Now let’s say the above search returns a ton of emails and I still cannot find what I want. But I know the email I want has an attachment that is over 5MB in size. I can narrow the results by size by doing this search:
has:attachment size:5000000
Tons of emails accumulate in the those Categories Gmail automatically populates such as Promotions. The space I have in Gmail is finite so I want to keep my inbox as lean as possible so I’m not forced to pay for more storage (I like my email to be free). So let’s say I want to get all emails prior 2021 on back in ‘Promotions’ I just do this search:
category:promotions before:2020/12/31
now I can choose to delete them all in one go, nice and easy.
